VCE and VCAL

As students enter the senior years, they are able to select a course of study which caters for their interests and preferred pathways. Students can choose to complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

VCE

There are a wide range of subjects for students to choose from during the two year VCE course. The normal Year 11 course consists of six subjects (12 units) over the year, with at least one English study included. Opportunity exists for students to accelerate in a range of Unit 3 and 4 subjects, providing selection criteria are met and approved.

In Year 12, the normal course consists of five subjects (10 units) completed over the year, with the successful completion of at least one English study.

VET

The College belongs to the Brimbank Vocational Education and Training (VET) cluster, which offers students the opportunity to study a broad range of VET courses alongside their VCE or VCAL studies. VET courses provide successful students with an industry recognised qualification, with many courses contributing towards a student’s Year 12 study score (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 (Intermediate) and 12 (Senior). Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate. The VCAL course offers practical work-related experience, literacy and numeracy skills, and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for future employment.

At Intermediate level, VCAL students study Literacy, Personal Development, Work Related Skills, Maths and a VET course.

At Senior level, VCAL students study Literacy, Personal Development, Work Related Skills, two tailored VCE units, and a VET course.

Work Placement is compulsory at both years of VCAL study.
