All units are 5 periods per week. Students will complete 12 units during Year 10 (six each semester). Within this structure students will choose six units. They must meet the following minimum requirements when selecting units. These requirements have been established to safe-guard students and ensure that they are fully prepared for VCE. Many of the Year 10 units have been designed to provide students with an introduction to the topics covered in VCE units. Many students are approved to accelerate at year 10 and commence one or more of their VCE studies at this time. Any VCE subject selection fits into this structure.

At least 1 unit from at least 3 of these Domains

NB: Students not selecting a Domain must justify their decision as part of the counselling process and have it agreed by parents

  • A maximum of three units from any one Domain (an exception to this may be granted in the case of English and Mathematics where a student is capable of accelerating in these areas).
  • Where a student is planning to continue with Language in VCE they must complete 2 units of Language in Year 10.
  • Students involved in the Soccer Academy at Year 10 must undertake 2 units of soccer.

Year 11 & 12 (VCE, VCAL and VET)

All VCE classes run for 5 ppw. The normal load of a Year 11 student is 6 subjects per semester. The normal load of a Year 12 student is 5 subjects per semester. The range of VCE units offered can be found in the Later Years Course Selection Handbook. In addition, a broad range of VET subjects runs across our VET cluster of schools.

Students move between schools to participate in these classes. These classes run on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon in most cases. Most Unit 1&2 VET classes run on Tuesday afternoon. Most Unit 3&4 VET classes run on Thursday afternoons.

Students in the VCAL stream complete this certificate at Intermediate or Senior level. Options exist to also undertake two tailored VCE units in the Senior level.

A typical VCAL course of study will involve:

  • Literacy (5 ppw)
  • Mathematics (5 ppw in first year of the program)
  • Tailored VCE subject (5 ppw in the second year of the program)
  • Personal Development (5 ppw)
  • Work Related Skills (3 ppw)
  • An approved VET course of study in both years
  • An approved work placement

Year 12 students participate in a 1 period per week Homegroup Program in lieu of attending normal homegroup arrangements each morning.
